When times are tough you will see a rise in the amount of cheap services and flyers coming through your door listing cheap, lawn care, grass cutting, gardening or garden clearance services. But beware your garden is an area ripe for exploitation by the less scrupulous and unqualified cowboy operators so make sure you are using a registered company that are fully insured.
Quotations for jobs which are suspiciously low usually mean something is missing, and every trick in the book has been pulled to gain lost ground. It is often worth getting another quotation if your unsure.
Who you choose to manage your space and invite into your home is important, its just as important as the equipment they use and the quality of materials going down. Trust has to go both ways for the contractor and the customer. If a company cannot provide a uniformed liveried service with a registered listed address. Think twice before using them, chances are they have a non-traceable 0800 number and will not be around if there are any problems.
How to check a trade
To become a decent gardener or lawn technician (groundsman) takes years of training and significant investment. Its why its a profession. To check if the person you are using is actually qualified simply ask them. They should be able to show a portfolio of works with customer recommendations or have valid certifications relevant to the task they are carrying out. You can also check a company on the companies house website to see if they are a registered company.
Public Liability Insurance
Your average man with a van that cuts the grass £5 cheaper is not always cost effective. What happens when they damage the lawn or garden and or car or property. Chances are they are not insured or qualified to carry out the work you are paying them to do. “Oh its just grass or a plant they say. It will grow back” but dis-appear leaving you seriously out of pocket. If you have an accident or they do carrying out work without insurance both parties may end up in a legal dispute.
We are cheaper
Cheaper is never actually cheaper in life you always get what you pay for. If someone is under cutting prices it really is too good to be true. More often than not it means they are applying inferior products using inferior, unsafe or incorrect equipment. Are not insured, are not qualified to operate that equipment and are not paying taxes. To knowingly doing so with no regard to the end result, space or health and safety of those around them. More often than not means you end up needing garden and lawn renovation.
He looks experienced
Age is not always wisdom don’t be fooled that a person has lots of experience because they look of a certain age. Always ask what qualifications and background that person has regardless of how long they have been operating.
Restoring and renovating a space even when you have an insurance claim is never straight forward. Many contractors will be reluctant to get involved unless they know they are going to get paid and will be reluctant to quote on jobs.
Heritage are fully qualified and insured we use professional machinery and work to exacting standards regardless of the space we are in.
